About the Bowls
Crystal singing bowls are made up of 99% quartz crystal. The bowl is a musical instrument that vibrates and provides a rich deep tone when played. The size of the bowl will determine the tone it provides to you. A rubber mallet is used to tap and rub below the rim of the bowl. This is what creates the vibration that washes over you and provides a deep sense of relaxation. Sound healing is not a new concept. In fact, ancient Greeks and Romans used singing bowls, gongs and bells to treat physical ailments, mental illness and pain (Gould, 2023). The Tibetan singing bowl dates back to as early as 2500 B.C. A sound bath takes place when one is immersed in the low frequency sounds and vibrations of various bowls + chimes and other sound healing instruments. are being played in combination with one another. The purpose of using the bowls is to bring the client back to state of harmony and health. It has been said that the magic of a sound bath lies in the intention that is set at the beginning of the session by the facilitator. I am convinced that intention sets the tone for what is received and given.
Why do the Bowls Work?
There are a few different theories as to why singing bowls work to relax and soothe an excited mind and body. The bowls support the creation of a meditative or trance like brainwave states (theta waves), which has been shown to alleviate anxiety and improve well being (Goldsby et al., 2017). Another theory has to do with our energy fields. You are energy and every object has an energy form. Energy in the body is made of particles. These particles are set to a certain vibration and frequency that keeps you healthy. According to Ascending Vibrations (2022): If you have an upset frequency, the particles are not at ease and are in disharmony. This causes discomfort and dis-ease. It is like the music the particles make, is wrong. In order to bring them back into harmony, you can use sound at the right frequency so the particles in your body work how they are meant to. This healing through sound is what happens when I play the bowls. So the bowls communicate with the body and heal the particles.
Who Am I...
My name is Kirsten Camartin and I am a Registered Social Worker and Art Therapist in Bruce County, Ontario. In May 2023, I received my Expert Level Sound Healing Certification training from Vickie Gould at Life Changing Energy and am keen on connecting with groups of people who are interested in experiencing the remarkable benefits of in person sound baths in combination with guided visualization. I am a true believer in using sound healing as a complimentary way to induce relaxation and stress reduction and exploration and reflection of our inner parts. When played at the right frequency and with intention, I have felt the way the bowls vibrate and create a deep impact upon myself and others. I believe that everyone should have access to sound healing and conducting groups is a good way to keep costs down while receiving the benefits that the bowls have to offer. My mission is to share the bowls with those who feel drawn to its magic!
